Kristy & Noah had originally planned a beach side wedding in Currumbin, but not all wedding days go according to plan. If you’ll think back to rainy weeks leading up to the big floods, you’ll know I’m referring to the unpredictability of Mother Nature.  Kristy & Noah’s wedding day plans were slightly altered due to a morning of on and off rain. With dark storm clouds overhead, a last minute decision was made to have the service inside The Beach Shack where they would also host their reception. Despite the change in plans, the service was still beautiful, complete with a rose petal aisle and a panoramic view of the beach. A personalised touch, Noah’s step-sister concluded the ceremony singing “At Last” by Etta James, and she brought everyone to tears with her amazing voice.

Following the service, the weather held out and we were able to have a fun portrait session on the beach. I absolutely love the effect of dark clouds at the beach, so in this instance the weather truly was working in their favour! My favourite part of the day was to follow, though. As a surprise for friends and family, we hopped in a car and secretly drove to some Hinterland Cane fields. Everything about this part of the day was just amazing. The light was beautiful, the setting was magical, and Kristy & Noah just looked so happy and in love. I think I was on a natural high for the rest of the night! Afterward we made our way back to The Beach Shack for a night of fire-twirling, canapes, costumes and big laughs.

On this day, I was very privileged to have Debs Ivelja along side me as a second shooter. Debs is a very talented photographer who is currently based in England. She has such a keen eye for detail and natural candid moments that I can’t wait to work with her again when she moves to Australia later this year. Thank you so much, Debs!

Also, I chose to feature Kristy & Noah for my 2-page advertisement in the 2011 Edition of Discerning Bride Magazine. I knew before ever photographing their wedding that I wanted to feature them as my ad, so even though their wedding day was two days past the artwork deadline of the magazine, I begged them to kindly grant an extension and wait for these images. I stayed up all night after shooting their wedding to edit and process the images for the ad. An effort I feel well worth it because I am thrilled with the final result.

Every year the Queensland AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photography) hosts their annual print award competition and this year I finally entered.   I am super proud to announce that one of my favourite prints won a Silver Award at this year’s Queensland Professional Photographer Awards! Entering a competition like this is nerve-wracking but so beneficial  because it is an opportunity to be critiqued by some of the top professionals in the field of photography.  There were 26% more entries this year than in past competitions, thus making it even more thrilling to have won a Silver Award. I watched the judging via Live Stream on the web and when my print came up for judging I’m not sure I even remembered to breathe for the entire duration of its ajudication. When the score was announced and I realised I’d earned a Silver Award, let’s just say that I did a victory dance that I’m pretty relieved no one was around to record! The winning print below was taken of Kim & Dane in San Francisco City Hall.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Tim & Joy at Brisbane’s Treasury Hotel. Tim & Joy are the type of couple that every photographer dreams of photographing; great style, completely in love with each other, hospitable & genuine,  and completely down-to-earth. I can’t wait to share their story and wedding imagery soon!

Jane & Nick were married at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in New Farm & celebrated with a reception at The Strand, Rugby  Quay. They shared a beautifully sunny wedding day with friends and family who had traveled from all over the globe. I look forward to sharing a full post on their wedding soon!
